This painting is illustrated in the book "Art And Artists Of All Nations" in the 1894 edition on page 121. The very light pic in the center is a copy of that page. The painting is not signed but obviously
done in the period and in my opinion it could be by Wierusz-Kowalski since many artists did "studies" of the same painting before being satisfied with a final one. So, I think that this could be by him
or a protege. It is an oil on canvas and the photo on the left above is 17 3/4" wide x 22 7/8" high in the present frame. The painting was larger. It was removed from it's original stretcher and wrapped
around a board in order to place it in a smaller frame. There is approx. 2" more on all sides that is wrapped around the board. In other words, nothing has been cut off--even the part that was nailed
to the old stretcher is still there. So, the original painting would have been approx. 21 3/4" wide x 26 7/8" high AND xince all the canvas is still there, it could be restored to it's original size.
Part of the rider on the left and another dog was hidden as a result of the reduction in size. The overall size of the present frame is approx. 21 5/8" wide x 26 7/8" high. It needs restoration regardless.
I have heard that a nice oil by Wierusz-Kowalski has been sold for over $100 Thousand. I do not have the time or inclination to have this authenticated as his work or someone else's nor do I wish to
go to the expense of restoring it myself so I am just going to put a price on it and see if it flies. This is a no-return price. I don't want to hear any sad stories later if you gamble and it's not
worth my price. Don't buy it if you are not a knowledgable art person.
