The item that I am offering here is a GREAT Majolica vase by Bretby C. 1900. It features a large bamboo vase with a base covered with a variable green glaze which is surrounded with other bamboo shoots
in a hand painted dull brown color. The shoots appear to have been painted over the glaze. The is a standing Heron between the bamboo shoots and it's head is handpainted in the same color brown as seen
on the shorter shoot near his legs. His head is topped in a dull black. The painting is lacking in spots due to drying up and normal disintegration from age. There is no sign of damage at all to this
piece---only natural aging on the hand painted portions. There is an impressed BRETBY/ENGLAND mark on the bottom along with a "917" a "C", and what may be a 3 leaf clover, all impressed under the glaze.
The Heron standing by itself is approx. 7 1/2" high. Overall hight is approx. 11 1/2".
