This is a handwritten document by Com. James Alden ordering James E. Mongomery --the Admiral's Secretary to accompany Admiral Farragut to Portland Maine. There is a stamped addition on the top of the front page indicating that Jas E. Montgomery recieved pay of 67.40 less $3.37 tax on Feb. 5, 1870 at New York. On the back is the statement "Reported for duty at Portland, Maine Jan. 22, 1870 and signed " D.G. Farragut/Admiral U.S.N."
